Mark Zuckerberg defends Meta’s right-wing swing, complains about media leaks: Report

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg during an all-hands meeting defended a right-wing swing that will see the social media company aligning more closely with the U.S. government, as he also complained that his statements were often leaked.

Zuckerberg answered questions selectively during the meeting. He stressed that Meta had a chance to “have a productive partnership with the United States government” that it would use, according to tech outlet The Verge.

He also addressed Meta loosening restrictions around topics such as gender and immigration, by noting that he wanted the platform to facilitate discussions without necessarily agreeing with the content of those discussions.

Zuckerberg further complained that much of what he said was being leaked to the public despite Meta being “really open.”

On the AI front, Zuckerberg expressed optimism for the free and high quality AI models being put out by Meta when compared to paid offerings from OpenAI. He also shared that he was confident in the growth of Instagram Reels, especially with TikTok’s future hanging in the balance.

The Meta CEO appeared to confirm that layoffs of low-performing employees would take place next month, and defended the move as a “nicer” one for those workers who were likely to not meet expectations, reported The Verge.
