Adobe announces new AI tools, grant for filmmakers

Adobe has announced a new set of AI tools targeted towards filmmakers including students, industry veterans and documentary makers, at the Sundance Film Festival this year. The editing software company also announced a $5 million investment in the Adobe Film & TV Fund for underrepresented creators to help them find more work opportunities.

Additionally, the Adobe Foundation is supporting the Los Angeles creative community with a $1 million charitable event.

The new search panel on the beta version of Adobe Premiere Pro is able to find the perfect film clip from massive libraries of files, which is a lengthy process for editors normally. Users can type in a prompt asking for the close up of a certain actress and the clip would appear.

There’s also a new AI-powered caption translation which generates multilingual captions. Currently, this includes 17 languages.

Adobe also introduced new improvements in After Effects like a better caching system that can preview a composition faster than before, and HDR monitoring with support for PQ and HLG video.

The platform’s video editing wheel, Frame.io, Camera to Cloud will now be available for specific Canon cameras like the Canon EOS C80 and C400. Premiere Pro will support RAW files from these cameras.
